The Abyss of Red Desert Sand
The best way to experience the expansive desert is with a 4wd or jeep. Not really for the faint-hearted, so be ready to gear up on this scenic ride!
We straddled up the back of the jeep, where either side of the ute is a makeshift bench with a cushion. Once seated, hold onto dear life as you bounce through the many terrains to arrive at a Bedouin campsite.
Camel Ride
A ride on a camel is not complete if you’re visiting the desert. Our tour guide gave us strict instructions on how to climb a camel to be prepared.
A local Bedouin brought over one of his prized camels, and the camel lowered itself on all fours down to the ground. As the camel rose, I was flung forward and then jerked backward, almost getting thrown off! And as it stomped off, I held onto dear life as the camelback did not feel secure!
As we rode through the desert, we watched our shadows project upon the facade of the mountains, glistering through the sun, a spectacular meditative experience. So worth it!
Our ensuite tent at Wadi Rum Luxury Night Camp had gorgeous drapery hanging from the ceiling and regal decor. Lanterns and candlelight lighted the pathway leading to the tent. Breakfast and dinners were included.
We were not exactly roughing it!
Morning Sunrise
In the early morning, we opened our tents to one of the most incredible and beautiful things we had ever seen. The magnificent mesmerizing array of its sunrise shed its colours onto the massive mountains.
The Bedouin staff prepared breakfast & dinner for all the guests, which was such a treat.
Usually, Zarb, a Bedouin-style BBQ, is meat, potatoes and all kinds of vegetables cooked underground. The Zarb consists of hummus, fresh bread and an array of delicious camp-style Bedouin specialties.
Later in the evening, you can enjoy the campfire with fellow travellers and Bedouin staff, listening to their music and stories under the desert stars that brightly lit the entire desert night’s sky. You can also experience smoking shisha if you are keen.
